On the afternoon of 18 August, the Eastern District “Green Vine” Guizhou Exchange Group from Hong Kong visited our university for exchange activities. Wang Hai, Deputy Director-General of the United Front Work Department of Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, and Zhao Shouying, Member of the University Party Committee Standing Committee and Vice-President (Director-General rank), attended the event. Relevant officials from Division III of the Provincial United Front Work Department, heads and faculty-student representatives from the University’s United Front Work Department, Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, and School of Fine Arts & Design took part in the session. The forum was hosted by Zhang Bin, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation.

During the forum, participants watched the university promotional video, which showcased the university’s educational heritage and development achievements.

On behalf of the university, Zhao Shouying delivered a welcome address. He noted that the university pursues open and integrated education and attaches great importance to educational and cultural exchanges with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. It maintains academic exchanges and student-practice cooperation with Hong Kong universities and academic circles. Though Guizhou and Hong Kong are separated by mountains and seas, the two places share kinship and close bonds. The visit of the “Green Vine” Exchange Group creates a platform for young people from both regions to learn from one another. It serves as a meaningful practice to foster patriotism and strengthen youth friendship. Taking this visit as an opportunity, the university will further deepen cultural and educational exchanges between Guizhou and Hong Kong, expand cooperation areas, and support young people on both sides to grow hand-in-hand.

Representatives of the visiting group, Wong Tsz-wai from Hong Kong Eastern District “Green Vine” and Chan Ka-ling from Hong Kong Chiu Chow Federation, spoke in turn. Wong Tsz-wai presented a letter of appreciation to our university, introduced the progress of the “Eastern District Green Vine Programme”, shared his insights from previous visits to Guizhou, and expressed his impressions of national development. He stated that he would bring what he had learned back to Hong Kong to tell stories about mainland China’s development. Chan Ka-ling thanked the Provincial United Front Work Department and our university for the thoughtful arrangements. She introduced how the Hong Kong Chiu Chow Federation helps Hong Kong youth understand the motherland through community services. She encouraged Hong Kong young people to experience Guizhou’s dynamic growth and cultural heritage in person, and looked forward to deeper two-way exchanges.

In the open discussion session, Hong Kong youth representatives had in-depth exchanges with local teachers and students on campus life in mainland China, teacher-training programme development, student‑club activities and youth social practice.

Wang Hai delivered closing remarks. He hoped Hong Kong young people would share their experiences from this visit in Hong Kong, telling vivid stories of colourful Guizhou and spreading positive accounts of national progress. He expected this event to serve as a bond for sustained interactions and mutual understanding among Guizhou and Hong Kong youth, so as to strengthen their sense of identity and friendship.

Members of the exchange group also toured the University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute and took part in an intangible-cultural-heritage pottery-making workshop.

Going forward, our university will keep advancing educational exchanges with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, create more channels for youth engagement, and promote mutual learning and solidarity among young people of Guizhou and Hong Kong.
